CASA of Kosciusko County and the Kosciusko Youth Leadership Academy students from Lakeland Christian Academy are partnering to collect children's books for abused and neglected children who have a CASA volunteer assigned to them.
Because Children Deserve Play Dates... Not Court Dates.
We need your help! Would you have any gently used or new children's books you can donate? If not, you can make a financial donation to help support this project. Click on the tab "Donate" at the top left of this page.
The books collected will be a wonderful tool for the CASA volunteers to interact with the children involved in Court cases. Most of these children do not have a book of their own. Reading is such an important resource. In 2010, a study questioning over 17,000 young people revealed a strong link between young people’s reading ability and their access to books at home: 80% of children who read above the expected level for their age had books of their own. The report also found that young people who did not own their own books were also three times more likely to agree with the statements “reading is boring” and “I only read in class”. Children from low income families have literacy scores of more than 40 points lower than their high-income counterparts.
